halfords are pretty much a direct copy and also have the lifetime guarantee, why would anyone pay the extra for snap on anymore

Mine are all Halfords, been a full time mechanic for 3 years now and they've had daily use and abuse without an issue

I do also have MAC, Facom and Britool bits though, all of which are very good, you certainly pay a lot of the latter tho.

Don't talk shite tomnumbers, I'm no brand snob but Halfords stuff's a million miles away from Snap On quality wise.

Try Facom for socket sets Bracey and I got a belter of an 8-24mm Silverline flexi ratchet spanner set that I can't fault for 60quid. I'm a mechanical fitter to trade so my stuff's got to stand up to anything I might be faced with - I tend to go for higher quality stuff with socket sets, pliers, measuring equipment etc. since those sorts of things are used every day, but if it's just for a one off/ going to be used once in a blue moon then I just go cheap and cheerful for obvious reasons

ive worked in garages and know a fair few people that do also 90% of them now use halfords over snap on,

to break 90% of the halfords stuff your doing something wrong
there was a similar thread on saxp a while back, and there were full time mechanics that had sold all there snap on stuff in order to get all halfords stuff,

halfords , blue point , Mac tools combination with some cheap Aldi stuff for when you don’t fancy smashing your good stuff with a big hammer or putting a bar over a spanner when you really losing your temper.
Because when you snap something expensive you cry when your tools become part of your family lol.

And expensive tools don’t make a good mechanic or posh roll cabs look after your tools good housekeeping respect them and use your brain and that makes a fast efficient exceptional mechanic any one can spend money and be a monkey remove and refit.

well i work for specialist cars bmw in luton and i started off with everything halfords advance i could lay my hands on. But all that stuff deteriorated really quickly and 75% of it upon trying to return it on its so called "lifetime guarantee" was refused due to every excuse they could think of

everything else i have bought since has been snap on or blue point. If either of those brands break i phone my dealerships snap on representitive and the following monday he brings me a new and takes the old one away, no questions asked.

With snap on its a service as well as quality you get from them.

yes there is a difference but not enough to warrant the massive price difference,
halfords pro is even cheaper with trade

there is a massive diffrence if you use them all day everyday , take for instance the ratchets the snap on ones have fine tooth on them so when acces is tight it makes a diffrence, 9/10 mechanics use snap on must be a reason they dont use halfords advance

Snap-on and blue point were rivals (i think) but then snap-on bought out blue point.
Blue point is pretty much the same quality as snap on but i dont think its a lifetime warranty, although ive never had a problem returning anything.... unlike halfrauds

Halfords is a good starting point BUT to many loop holes in there "life Time Guarentee". The one which got me, have you got the bill of sale? well no i bought the item most prob 10 years ago, well no warrenty then, loads of loop hole to get out of it read the small print (ratches mechs not covered etc).
with everything, you get what you pay for, if your working at a garage full time, start up an account with snap on and just pay it weekly, your collection will soon grow.
False economy buying cheap tools........

My mum found a old snapon ratchet in a 50p box on a car boot, so she bought it for a bit of a joke.
Turned out to be from the 1960 and it was broken.
Snapon man came around that week passed it him ask him to fix it "No Problem" because it was so old no parts where availbule, so he gave me a brand new ratchet to the same spec.
Would like to see your halfords warrenty stand up in 50 years time

Not as good as snap-on stuff but the warranty is just as good and normally far more convenient than having to wait for the snap-on man

I've never had to show any receipts at my local halfords and I've taken all sorts of things back, normally stuff that the impact gun has fucked up nicely
