I want to build a 'stage/platform'

It had to be 6000x4000mm, constructed of aluminium, have legs to support it at a height of 1m (approx) and one side (a 6m long side) will be attatched to a wall. The frame would be covered in 18mm ply.

What size box ally should be used? What intervals should the 'joists' be in? And at what positions should the legs be attached.

Was looking at 50mm box but seems a bit overkill.

Any help greatly appreciated.

We have used these things called Easi-joists in the past.

Am sure they have a calculator thing to work out how far they span and how deep they are.

Tbh you could design it with them and just make your own joists

Seems to only be big stuff on there 3cm.

As i can have a supporting leg however often i like the house building stuff isnt much help.

Obv i could use 20mm box but would need a hell of a lot of supports. Just looking for a happy medium.

Can you not use this type of stuff?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270976684137

That one is expensive and the wrong shape, but that is module and fairly strong.

You'll probably spend as much money buying and fabricating lengths of alu box

Think it would end up been too heavy. Its quite bulky stuff

Got a good price on 50mm box so I think ill go with that. 600ctrs on joists with supports at 1000ctrs.

Unless someone comes up with a reason against?

TIG welding, mostly.

Plus do you need to design in some way of collapsing it or is semi-permanent?

Legs/supports will be detatchable.

Taking something like that into account i think 50box is definatly overkill. Providing there is a support every 600-800mm x+y

Any thoughts?
