http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console
quote:
OUYA is a new game console for the TV, powered by Android. We've packed this little box full of power.
Developers will have access to OUYA's open design so they can produce their games for the living room, taking advantage of everything the TV has to offer.
Best of all, OUYA's world-class controller, console, and interface come in one beautiful, inexpensive package. All the games on it will be free, at least to try.
$2.7 in (apparently) 12hrs
They're certainly not going to steer developers away from the 'big boys' and i can't see it ever being as successful. But it's certainly an interesting product.

I wonder what they consider inexpensive. I don't see any mention about price!?

I've had a punt on this. I applaud the spirit of the project, if it turns out to be a great product as well - great.

That's what I meant, can this actually pay better stuff than say a GalaxyS4, from what I've seen the games are on par with apps on the android store in which case just hook your phone up to the TV.

As damning as that review is, its hardly a surprise. They've obviously rushed a launch date with it not being ideal.
Essentially sending out a beta version to people who've paid on kick starter, and getting them to sort out the bugs and make it smoother and better, then they'll release version 2 which will be better, and obviously developers will have made games specific to it by then.
Give it a year and it may well be worth buying.
Did like this line though ... "Just because you technically can sideload apps onto the Ouya doesn't mean it's an open platform. The company opened a door, then hid that door on the other side of the world and burned the maps."

Sounds horrible.
Look at the date of the review - 4th April; published nearly two months before it launched.
They clearly had an early developer preview box. I'm sure it's not massively better now, but it is unfair to review a developer preview box as though it were a finished product.
