What size of tyre would be the best for a 17" wheel, 7.5j wide??

Don't want chunky side-walls, nor do i want VW style stretch.

Just looking for a size thats kind of in-between.

Was thinking 215 40 17, possibly 205 45 17.

Advice please.

My Astra wheels are 7.5" with a 225 from the factory, pics in my garage.

18" but that doesn't change the width.

215 might look a bit stretched and 205 more than likely would.

Went an viewed/tried on some 18" Penta's yesterday with 225 40 tyres, and they looked just a tad too chunky for my liking so i think 225's are out of the question.

Can also depend on the tyre brand. Plus if they're going on a G I'd go smaller. I had 225s on my BBS rims on my old convert and they were huge.

If you're lowering it then yeah 215/40

Yeah, think 215 40 will be the best compromise.

Cheers.

Here's a good website, gives you a good visual idea of what the tyres will look like as well all of the percentage differences etc to the standard tyre.

Thanks nibnob but it dosn't actually show what they will look like on a real wheel etc.

Fitment of the wheels with either of the above tyres will be fine also.

Can't compare it to how it is just now, as its not on standard tyre size either.

Cheers anyway.

I have 215/40s on the fiesta. They look pretty good on a lowered car.

Yeah but the visual part still gives you an idea of how the tyre will sit on the rim. As in the amount of stretch etc.

Still a handy site to bookmark
