I'm after a hybrid bike, but I have literally no idea what i'm looking at in terms of specification, what's good, what isn't etc. etc.

I'm after one with front suspension with lockout and ideally disc brakes. Other than that I'm not all that fussy other than not wanting an £99 Apollo or likewise as I'd like it to last a while!

Anyone got any recommendations?

I considered the Trek 7300 for a while but felt a hybrid would be too limiting and ultimately decided to go down Mountain Bike route.

Evans has the 7300 in the sale at the moment and it has all of the elements you require http://www.evanscycles.com/products/trek/7300-2011-hybrid-bike-ec023965

I recently got a hybrid, wanted one for mountain than road as some were very similar to road. Ended up with a .gt legacy off ebay for 70 quid. Light frame for a mountain bike, 700c wheels , lockable front suspension and does the job spot on. Noticed from my search that if you live near London there are loads, not many commuters up North so less deals.
