Got a private reg I want to stick on the car.
Can I go into the local DVLA offices and do it the same day?
As far as I can see online, I can take the stuff I need down there physically, but it doesn't mention if I'd still have to wait a couple of weeks for the new tax disk, etc. or if it's good to go straight away?
Cheers

Ah right. It's a bit of a mission for me really and I'd only be interested if it'd happen same day. S'pose I best call them up first.

They print a new tax disc out, and MOT cert etc, give you a form for use as a temporary logbook (also for the plates to be made) and then your existing V5 is taken to be changed and posted out to you.
Only other thing you have to then do is notify Insurance.

That's what I wanted to hear
Did you phone your insurance there and then or just wait till later? Bit of a drive home so if I got pulled wouldn't want it to flag as uninsured.

I wasn't usingthe car getting the change, so phoned insurance when I got home, after getting a pair of plates made up on the way.
That was only a 5-10min call in itself too.

They don't always do it right away.

In all the times i've gone they have done it there and then. The office is that organised now it literally takes 5 minutes to go in and get it all sorted.
I read in a mag last night though that they're closing a load of offices down and my local is one of them. Where do you go Brett? It might be my local place from next year

The one in Manchester centre, although when I went back in March they had a sign up in there asking people to sign a petition not to close it.
They were great last time I went in, very busy yet very efficient. Staff were cool apart from the dirty foreign ones who were just arrogant as you'd expect.

Had mine on 3 cars and all have been instant.
Was funny ringing insurance to swap my cover from Clio to 106, reg of your car, H11 OER, and now the reg of the 106 you wish to insure, yep H11 OER

It is serious, check the site, it's not there, bought it this week. I wouldn't post it otherwise as I think it's a good plate that should've been snapped up ages ago and now it's mine

Yeah it was OJC I've watched it ever since to see if it goes, always wanting it. This week I decided was the time because like you say, I think it'd suit a scooby well tellin them to PSTFU when I overtake them in a 20 zone past a school
