Car - E36 M3 with S54 engine

quote:
First of all,

Thanks to the marshal's at KH on sunday for helping me in Qually (where the throttle cable snapped) and in race 1 where my gearbox/proshaft/mountins/gearstick all exploded and started entering the car from all angles!!!

Well done to Mark for his results in both races and of course on his PB

on closer inspection... and the amount of oil on the trailer, it looks like the output shaft on the gearbox gave way, shunted the prop, sheared all 6 bolts, ripped the gear lever out of my hand, wrapped it round the prop started throwing bit of metal and rubber at me inside the car and cut holes in the tunnel!!

must say - scary experience sitting in the car while it was happening, but im ok bar a few bruised ribs and a dodgy ankle!!

pictures below ( i will be covering the tunnel wit some sort of kelar fabric when its all fixed, i was really lucky this time )

what happened there? Flywheel/clutch packed in? Or did the gears decide coming through the bell housing was the easiest option?

Was using a helix paddle clutch and it was only rated to 400ftlb and I was putting 480 through it , 3 rivets that hold the friction plate decided to let go and it tried to made a exit , luckily it was only sat idling in my unit when it happened
