Does anyone on here own an astra gsi turbo as i have been looking at doing an engine conversion on my corsa sport but judging by the prices of astra gsis it seems to give alot of performance for the price and the insurance for me is actually quite sensible so im getting verry tempted recently. Now i have never even sat in one and was wondering what peoples views and opinions are on the gsi turbo?

Cheers lads.

I'm not sure you are asking the right question here.
For what I think your looking for, you want to know ideally how big a job it is to squeeze the engine in and will mounts be ok?

Quite fancy one my self. Easy tunable, not the best handling car. Nice interior, seem to hold money quite well. Look for a local one for sale and go have a look round.

I think hes asking what Astra GSi's are like, instead of converting his corsa.

Yer sorry i was asking about getting an astra gsi instead of converting the corsa. I spose i have to find a local one at a dealer and have a look/ test drive. I was just wondering what peoples opinions are of the gsi?

This was my opinion. Not bothered about the handling as standard as i will uprate the suspension. Cheers

Very nice looking cars as standard. The kit seems to work well on the car.

BUT, far too many stories of them not being the car they should have been etc.

The decent 1s with low-ish miles and some upgrades seem to be near the £4.5k and up price range. Would rather a Coupe Turbo for less than half that.

Ah i didnt realise the coupe turbo was that much cheaper. I dont like the looks of the coupe atall though i much prefer the standard 3dr. The 888 coupe is good as a ltd edition though.

I bought a Coupe turbo for £1150 the other week. I had a GSI ages ago it was a lovely car, phase 1 tune, with eibach springs and RARB. But they are a lot better once tuned to maybe a phase 3. Two really nice ones in TV this month.

Had 1 for 2 years, fast, look smart, easily tuned, didn't handle amazingly but what do people expect from an Astra? Mine was great on coilovers with a RARB, only sold it as it was shit on fuel for the mileage I do.

Would have another in a heartbeat maybe go stage 2 or higher though this time..

Had one.

Was kinda boring, but once tuned it was better.

Needs to be tuned, but it becomes expensive as the original turbo is gash, and upgrades cost a fortune.

I think they are a fantastic looking car (especially in arden!) and the perfomance on paper seemed really good. I dont know what it is about the coupe but theres somthing in the looks i dont like.

I completely agree, I see the coupe as more of an old mans car.

Agreed. Can be tuned into a very capable car indeed but my god they have nothing in the way of feel or feedback through the steering.

Still enjoying mine even after 3 years of ownership.

Most of what's been already said is pretty much the truth tbh, handle like a barge and steering feedback isn't great. A decent set of tyres and coilovers improved mine tenfold but still isn't the best car handling wise, you will find much better for similar money.

First year owning mine was perfect and never missed a beat, last year I had a shite load of problems after some minor tuning but touch wood everything has been fine since the beginning of the year.

Before I bought mine I looked in to Clio 182's, Type R's and Ibiza Cupra's which where around the same price at the time and luckily had mates who owned each car, but as soon as I spotted mine for sale I was sold on the looks straight away, and the tuning potential.
