Probably because what you're looking at seems like science fiction and because the lighting is vastly different than on earth.

Also, pretty cool to see some sharp images. Didn't think they could transfer this amount of data, as most other stuff has looked like it was done with a 10£ webcam.

I'll just refrain from visiting the website in the corner and go ahead and assume it's one of the most boring sites on the internet.

Utter shite.

Only people who can't admit they might be wrong are as bad as religious nutters. You get nutballs on both sides.

You can suspect someone is lying to you, there's nothing wrong with that. Question everything.

Like the way America used Osama Bin Laden to take the blame on 9/11, when in fact, he wasn't behind it.

How much lighting, dust and atmosphere affects the images:

1. Taken on earth with electric light

2. Taken on Mars with natural light

Another factor that contributes to the "unrealistic" images is the camera using dual exposures, to get an unnaturally deep depth of field.
Quite interesting stuff, actually.

Sometimes NASA like to make the Mars images appear more red than they actually are.

I'd also imagine it to be a difficult task to reproduce the colours proporly.
You could easily adjust the white balance to get a neutral light, like we do conventionally, but you could also adjust it to look like it would appear if you were actually there.

Question everything yet believe anything some weird, social recluse in a tinfoil hat tells you. Great logic.

That is actually true though. They used to be sent in black and white and colour added, there were a lot they made more red as that was what the public expected them to look like.

IIRC
