I questioned whether or not to start a thread about this, but feel like I should even though some on here (less some notable exceptions) are happy to take the lies as truth and use it as a stick to beat liverpool fans with.
There's lots of information coming out today, not least an apology from David Cameron and several unedited documents from the time that show how much of a cover-up the whole thing was.
One of the most damning peices of evidence regarding how the South Yorkshire police not just tried to hide from the real blame, but tried (successfully for 23 years) to blame the victims of their inexcusable failings:
At the Police Federation meeting, Chief Constable Peter Wright joined in and advised that the South Yorkshire Police case had to be pulled together. A "defence" had to be prepared, and a "rock solid story" be presented. Cheif Constable Wright believed that the Force would be "exonerated" by the Taylor inquiry, and considered that "blame" should be directed towards "drunken ticketless individuals".
That's not to mention the sickening cover-up from higher up/across other services/from shite media outlets, which reflected upon a whole countries view of not just those victims who were involved, but an entire city. I think the Panel have done an amazing job and I sallute them for all their efforts. I hope (but don't expect) this whole thing brings the hundreds of family members (and probably thousands of those affected less directly) some peace, and I seriously hope criminal charges are brought to those that were happy to piss all over the memories of 96 people who died because they didn't want to accept the consequences of their failings.

I've been watching the live report on Mirror & Reading on RAWK.
Cameron apology was needed, aswell as explanations why it was such a cover up.

Massive news all of this tbh.
Incredibly damning on the entire police force at work during the game, they tried to cover up and discredit the dead, and the liverpool fans who survived.
The worst thing was that 28 (iirc) of the people who died could of possibly survived had they had treatment, and i'd imagine, unfortunately that some families are going to find out that their children, fathers, brothers are some of the ones who died as a direct cause of the emergency services inadequacies.

Sickening that 41 could have been saved, can't imagine the chaos on that day and how helpless some of those fans felt before dying a needless death.
I'm onboard with Hammers plan Absolute stinking horrible witch she is.

Ah here he is. Let's forget everything people have fought for and rejoice that simple ben doesn't have to cope with the absolute horror of coming across the words JFT96 again.

"Rammed down our throats" is more accurate.
You act like i'm the only one who got sick of the constant bleating from Victims FC???
I've nothing against JFT96 and I sat in silence watching as it unfolded in 1989, which half the bleaters didn't do as they weren't even born.
I have as much sympathy as anyone else for the victims and familes etc.
What about JFT39???

Rammed down your throat again, deepest sympathies you ignorant fool.
This is exactly why I wasn't going to post it in here. If you are sick of hearing about it, then why click on the thread FFS Today has been a long time coming, perhaps you should direct your frustration at having to hear about it at the people who covered it up for so long.

For me, it was always clear from the outset that the blame was incorrectly placed.
There can be no doubt that Liverpool will have had a few characters about, like the ones who spent most of the 80s causing mayhem around England and Europe, but it was quite simply shoddy incompetence and deliberately corrupt actions afterwards by the police.
It just goes to show how much corruptness there is (or at least was) in the police force. Remember this was a time where football fans were always looked upon as "hooligan scum" who went around there country causing trouble. There can be no doubt that there was a prevailing attitude of callousness and heartlessness towards the fans on that day along the lines of "bloody football fans deserve it".
For the police, it was far too easy to cover it up and go along with that attitude, "Why should we lose our jobs just because of some football hooligan scum".
I'm glad this report has come out like it has, because even today, football fans are laboured with responsibility for disasters like Hillsborough and although the image has changed for the better we are still suffering with the outcomes of the Taylor report, ie standing at football.
Now this report has effectively been torn up and branded a completely made up story I'm hoping we will see even more of a swing in terms of public attitude towards football fans because while we all moan about the Premier League, England and the plastic fans with facepaint, let's take pride in the fact that football fans are no longer regarded as scum and it is football fans, people like us on here (well, some of us ), who have worked hard whether consciously or sub-consciously to improve that image.
It's not better policing, football intelligence, CCTV, government legislation that changed football. The fans changed football.

Yeah, well said Johnny, they brought that up on talksport that basically the public judged football fans in general on the belief that Liverpool fans caused that trouble. And that all the changes that have come in, removing alcohol, segregation, no standing came in because of Hillsbrough essentially, and the belief that all football fans are drunken yobs.
