Visual Basic is reasonably straight forward, i remember learning the basics over a weekend (although i had prior experience with Basic anyway).
O'Reilly do a handful of decent VBA/VB books, infact i think they do a few for VBA in Excel, and the Dummies books aren't too bad (although i found them extremely simple, a bit too simple tbh).

VBA in Excel is syntactically the same as normal VB, you just have to learn the Excel object model.
