Depends what you want and what type of team/gym you're training with
I was never interested in competing etc just wanted to try and get fit.
Got fucked off with it though as there were too many twats turning up who just wanted to call themselves a "cage fighter" when they were pissed on a Friday night and get into street fights.

I moved to just doing BJJ as was more interested in doing a martial art than just getting into fights

Just do your research and find a decent gym then.
Must be some good ones around your area with some of the fighters that have come out of it.

I think the normal route into it you start off with one discpline eg. Thai Boxing/BJJ then when your good, learn the other, so ground work etc.

BJJ isn't as much Cardio as the likes of boxing and Thai Boxing, so if your looking to get fit, avoid BJJ.

That was the traditional route but now that's it got more popular there are plenty of places offering pure MMA classes.
These days if you're training in one discipline a lot of it is likely to prove useless in an actual MMA fight. Like competition taekwondo is almost purely looking for head kicks now which is unlikely to be your main point of attack or pulling guard is unlikely to be as good as in a BJJ match

Look for Spartan MMA
That's where Ross Pearson and Colin Fletcher both started IIRC

That says much, much more about you than it does about MMA

If you think some guy is trying to 69 you, break his ankle.
