Well looks like I will be doing 80 miles a day now and don't think my 307 is going to enjoy that much so idea welcome for what I can replace it with
Must be:
Diesel
Reliable
Insurance friendly
6 Speed box would be a plus
Thats pretty much it really

My mate has just bought a nice 2003 Golf GT TDI for £2200 which has all these.
I've just bought a 2002 Clio DCi as my daily for £1200. Absolute bargain. Returns 60mpg+ and is £30 a year tax. Isn't 6 speed but still ideal for cheap motoring

Clio sounds a good buy, Was looking at the golfs but for the money they do have a lot of miles up their arse.
Any known reliability issues with the clio dci?

Make sure it starts and runs on all 4, glowplug controllers can be a bit of a cunt.
I used to have one that used to average 57.2MPG all day long

The Ibiza seems really good value. Will be adding that to the list of cars for early next year

They're not good value when they go wrong. £500 for a dashboard!

40k on a 56 plate plate. Amazing on fuel, decent build up speed considering it was only a 1.3 but had a fair amount of rust. The gearbox was shocking which was one of the main reasons i got shut.

Megane 1.9 dCi - 6 speed box.
They did have a lot of issues with electrics in the earlier models, mainly due to leaks, water going to the electrics, so it's always best to check the electric windows are working, there is no damp patches on the carpet, other then that they are pretty reliable.

Dashboards are probably the last part to break on a car though
Prefered my clio dci over the ibiza cupra tdi i had. The ibiza was really crashy, interior was rattly as hell and the engine sounded like a right tractor.

I don't know if I just happen to go in good ones, but I have never been in an Ibiza that rattles, I have owned 4, been in/driven another 8 or so and none of them rattled. My Audi A3 rattled though...
