Was at Mallory Park last Friday on a trackday in the damp/cold. The weather in the morning was wet, and although not raining anymore the track stayed wet till lunch time due to the cool air temp and lack of wind. Eventually the track began to dry and with the wet tyres starting the 'move' on the drying surface i swapped onto the dry tyres over lunch break.
First session after lunch comes and tyre warmers are removed and i'm out chasing my mate down. On the 4th lap going into Edwina's chicane i crash. I'm not really sure what happened as i was knocked out and judging by my injuries it was a pretty big 'high side'. When i came round i was being shovelled into an ambulance and having my leathers cut off me (the fuckers ) Spent a day/night over in Leicester Royal Infirmary (was really well looked after here) and the list of injuries is broken collar bone, broken shoulder blade, bruised ribs, buised lung and some epic bruising of my hip/abdomen. Quite a lot for a relatively slow crash!
Few pics of the bike/riding gear
Leathers are fit for the bin as is the helmet and i seem to be missing a glove too! The bikes not too badly damaged, it only needs a top fairing/screen, a quick action throttle and a master cylinder reservoir. Got 4 week sick note and after 1 week my head is already melted from daytime tv! ha! Suppose I've got here to keep me entertained for a bit
I've been racing/trackday riding for 11 years now and think i've done well so far to escape a proper injury through crashes. Sick of people telling me i should pack it in though. I haven't got myself up to this speed just to give up now!

Mark, top of my leg feels like ive got a constant dead leg. Collar bone has stopped crunching and clicking now but cant move that shoulder just yet. Hurts when i take deep breaths too, but i'm glad that i crashed there and not on the road. Paramedics were with me in minutes

Seen a fair few crashes on bikes at Mallory but its generally on the long sweeping bend. Welcome to crashing on track club.
I'm there tomorrow but in a car!

Yeah it is. I've only done around 500 miles on the road this year. I mainly browse these days but i do have a little project thread for my E36 which i update now and then.
I know what you mean about the weather at this time of year Steve. Been looking at my tyres and think they've been through too many heat cycles now as they're rock hard where you should be able to stick your nail into them.
The frustrating thing is not knowing why or how i crashed. There were no warnings on the previous laps so its an unknown really. Won't slow me down though

Looks painful but least was on a track and your here to tell the tale.
Bastards cutting your leathers, could have done the seams at least!

Oh fuck lad looked a nasty one, glad your (relatively) ok tho. I love that bike, (was and will be again) tidy!
Low-speed highsides are the worst. Mate of mine had a highside at 170mph somewhere in Spain during the summer, muscle damage in his arm & a concussion was his only injuries. Another mate crashed 2 weeks later at under 50mph & he's still in hospital 3 months later!

Yeah it seams that way. Was only doing around 60 ish. Just a harsh landing i guess but i don't remember anything.
Going to invest in a better set of leathers too. My leg shouldn't really be that badly bruised.

Aye, the one that crashed at 170 reckons he came off so fast he just skipped along the ground & was slowed by the gravel trap. (Bike was absolutely mashed tho). The other one went straight up in the air & landed on his back & started rolling over, so arms & legs got broke & disloacted.
