I bit the bullet and decided it was time to spend some money on my car, the car is fine as it is but has a very old turbo on it which in all honesty is very laggy, its great fun but pretty unresponsive and does not really come alive until 4krpm.
I have purchased the below with the aim to make the car extremely response, with immense spool and to make a great road car over power.
new billet turbo, its an SC38 billet turbo which is an 18g based turbo with a billet wheel
a tubular hayward and scott equal length manifold, should get some more torque from this, downside is the subaru burble will be lost. I dont really mind if it eeks a bit more power/torque out.
New uppipe to compliment the turbo and manifold, I will also heatwrap this but again my old one has seen better days and I think is too large for the current setup, probably losing me power/spool.
I might only make an extra 20-30 bhp on current setup however my aim is not to get loads more power, just a better road car so once its all fitted and mapped I will report back with the differences, I am quite interested to see the RR graph differences.

The burble comes from unequal length manifold. You lose the 'burble' when changing to EQUAL

I moved from a 20G to a billet 321V, gained about 40bhp at the same boost and didnt lose any mid-range response... prob gained actually.
400bhp to 500bhp turbo with no downsides
.... except I blew the engine to bits through oil starvation at Croft.

sorry AK i posted wrong, its an equal length manifold, so i am getting rid of the standard unequal one.
I did look at the lateral turbos but they seem more expensive then the other ones in range? the MD321H which is 400hp rated is clocking on for like £1600???!

Some nice bits there .
That was the only thing that used to piss me off about my old impreza was that is was so gutless at low revs and having to change up a couple of gears just to get up a hill sometimes .
I guessing all these bits will help with that a bit ?

Chris - was your impreza standard? If so no, it wont be more 'useable' at low revs in comparison.
PS - DOWN a couple of gears

seems a bit strange, it should have had fairly decent pull from moderate revs. Unless your talking 1500rpm in 5th at 30 or something.
Sounds like it was running a bit crap!

Coming from my 300+ bhp Vxr that would pull from 6th hard any where in the rev range made the impreza feel really laggy... For instants a hill that leads up to my house I would always have to be a gear lower than any other car I've ever had because unless it was on boost it just seemed to struggle.. Probably different when mapped tho

so all bits went on car today, car has been mapped again and pick up tomorrow, garage said all went well and its a different car now, they would not tell me on the phone what power it made and said they will keep me sweating until tomorrow, will update tomorrow with what it got and how it now drives, well excited!

Nice Barnshaw, you'll need to sort me out with a shopping list to work on for mine!
When Gary @ Keith Michaels told me I could pretty much mod what I want without it hurting the premium... suddenly the modification bug bit.

Yea they are a good insurer Kyle, unlike others they understand cars and modifications.
well I got the graph, mapper uploaded it so pinched it, first graph is before and second one is with the new turbo and headers/up-pipe, as you can see its going to be a much better road car and have much better spooling and power low down,
Before - 4krpm - 160hp/210ft
Now - 4krpm - 260hp/360ft
100bhp and over 150ft extra at 4000rpm
Exactly what I wanted and with the benefit with an extra 30bhp (not really fussed on extra power or pub figures) , very happy and cannot wait to pick up as will feel like a new car undoubtedly.

didnt notice that.. thought it was common practice to run 4th as its usually 1:1 ratio (or close to)
perhaps it didnt have the guts before to do 4th!

i've seen some use 3rd, but most 4th... As long as its 'corrected' it shouldnt make much of an issue.
But the gear selected would normally always by the closest to 1:1, as you said.
