Me and the bird are looking at getting a car for around 4k, she does a lot of miles for work, so it has to be good on fuel all motorway stuff, and reliable.

She doesn't want anything too big by the way.

Thanks gents.

My missus sold her GT-TDi with 130k on for £2.5k over a year ago so I'd assume you can get something with significantly less miles on for £4k now

Whilst it's not got a great image, I have to say for comfort, motorway bashing and toys, my X Type is great. Cost me £3.5k 2 years ago and now has 153k on it and is still valued at £3.5k according to Parkers!! Electric everything, mirrors, seats, rain sensing wipers, auto headlights, heated windscreen and really good build quality - even after the mileage and abuse mine gets, nothing which isn't a maintenance item has gone wrong. Ridiculously comfortable, just a shame its a bit of a Grandad car

I can't see her driving a Jag. But it would be cool. Just been looking at Golfs and looks like plenty are about under 100k, even MK5's in her price range. I'll see what she says when she gets in.

Not exactly small

I'd be looking at golfs tbh. They're a bit boring but they'll be perfect for the amount of miles and built well and look nice enough.

The DCI clio's are good shout, what are they like, many faults?
Is it the later model, 197 shape?
It does need to be pretty small, and not too much on insurance.

Mk6.5 fiesta tdci 1.6 version. Very nippy and with a remap 120bhp and 200lbft. Only £30 a year tax. Cheap insurance, 50+mpg and they look superb.
