So the camera is used mostly for photographic properties, the internal shots suffer a little if there's not a decent light source, or where the main source is the window which often overexposes. Anyway, would this be good for what i'm aiming to do?

This is what i'm trying to combat -

Or overexpose the photo and blow out the window.

But yeah, that does need flash. Or the sofa moving.

Also, try going a bit lower to reduce the amount of distortion as you're at such a wide angle.

Cheers, was an awkward/ugly room to start with. Are there any non canon alternatives that'd suit? Quite pricey even on eBay.

I have a couple of Yongnuo 460 II's which I use in my studio. They're manual only, so no TTL, but still very easy to work with. Eventually you'll just know how much power at which f number you need. I bought one for £30 and it's nearly as powerful as my 430EXII.

You don't even need much power in something like that, just point it up and the ceiling will do the work.

Probably give exposure bracketing a try as well and you can choose the best when you're at a computer. Not critical that its done accurately on site.

If you're supporting the cam, I'd say you don't even need much power at all, you don't want to wash out the colour from the pic by lighting it artificially. I'd try and take as much natural light as possible from the window and just a touch of flash to light the shaded areas. If you go too powerful it'll end up looking stark and medical.

Cheers. I do try to use natural light as much as possible, though without a tripod it's a bit tricky in the darker properties.

I'd invest in a tripod too then. That way you could always blend multiple exposures to avoid using flash at all.

What camera do you use?

It'd be difficult to lump it around though really, I work mostly in central Manchester so not quite practical. It's a Canon 40d and a Sigma 10-20 lens

Doesn't have to be a massive one, that gear isn't going to weigh all that much. Will make the photos far easier to take.

Even if you just got a small gorilla pod and placed it on a table or chair in the property, set it to take three exposures (Auto exposure bracketing or AEB) and used a remote shutter release to eliminate camera shake.

I'd carry it, I had a boss Manfrotto massive strong one and that still wasn't heavy. Certainly worth its weight in lighting options.

I have a Manfrotto too. It's an 055PROB. It's not a carbon one or anything like that, but certainly not an inconvenience to carry around. I've even got a little strap to sling it over my shoulder.
However if you're struggling for space or you want to make the property look as big as possible then you want to take the photo from as far into the corner as possible. Sometimes a large tripod isn't ideal (unless you just don't spread the legs out fully).

Could just use it like a monopod, rest it on the wall and fire remotely. Or timed if you don't have a remote.

Might take a few goes to get it framed nice but I'd still have one available, mine went everywhere.

Might have a look for a small tripod then, was hoping I wouldn't need one but hey ho. Cheers again for the tips.

Will that work with the hot shoe, or whatever it's called, so it's automatic?

You mean using it on a trigger?

I've set mine in its little stand (wireless) and it goes off with another flash gun on the cmaera or even the flash built in on the camera.
