Hoping some one can shed some light for me, currently in my hall way I have 2 'standard' light fittings which were installed when we moved in a few months ago (new build) Due to were they are I want to put in down lights. Some think like in this link http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/lighting/indoor-lighting/spotlights___downlights/-specificproducttype-downlights/Low-VoLightage-Polished-Chrome-Plated-Fixed-Downlight-10867803 I also noticed these when looking are they any good? http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/lighting/indoor-lighting/spotlights___downlights/-specificproducttype-downlights/Eyeball-Pressed-Chrome-Plated-125mm-Downlight-10867814 Would they give off more light?

I cant get access to above with out ripping up carpets and floor boards so need to be able to do it (if possible) from the hall way so is there away to install them this way?

Lights & hall way in question, also people who have down lights would 2 be sufficient in this space?

Check your warranty on the house. Some get very very fussy if you change stuff

We are ok to change things like this

one of the electricians was going to do it as a side job as well but he's got to much on at the moment.

So I could do it from the previous fittings, I take it I can wire up the transformer for them to the 3 core wiring already there and just hide it in the roofing? Would 2 of these be sufficient for this area or would they not generate enough light? I'd of liked 4 but I wont be able to do this with out having to cut all the plaster ect and running more wiring ect which I dont want to do

as long as you have a decent bulb in them, they should be light enough. better than those shitty energy saver ones anyway.

the energy savers are horrific these are the last 2 left in the whole house

I'd just fit 2 nice new light fittings. 2 downlighters probably won't be enough and adding more will be a ballache with it being a new build.

There's a problem with that though, the one near the front door is with in a mm of the toilet door when you open it

To the point were it only just misses the bloody bulb now

We swapped all ours with warm white leds

Went from 8x50 watts to 8x3 watts

If you are putting 240v ones in you dont need a transformer, just split them off a distribution box and wire them in like a star (i assume this is ok for regs etc)

Right need some advice from people who are in the no how.

These light I want to change to down lights

Now I've purchased some main voltage tilt down-lights to replace both of those light fixings. The light is controlled via 3 switches meaning the wiring looks like this

I'm assuming that shows 4 positive connections 1 being the mian power cable the other 3 being from the 3 switches and again for the negatives.

Now my down light connections are like so

So my question is what is the best way to wire the existing wiring to the down lights so I can still operate it from the 3 switches. Can I use some sort of insulated multi block set up to connect the 4 positives/negatives to become one of each to connect to the new light??

Your out of your depth by the looks of it.
Junction boxes inside the ceiling void need to be of the maintainance free type to comply, Don't just bang all the browns in the L and all the blues in N like most people do!!
You will definitely need more than two spot lights in that area.
The blue wires plus the grey sleeved with blue are all neutrals, the centre brown wires are permanent lives (feeds) and the black with brown sleeving is the switched live.
That pendant wiring looks rough as fuck especially for a new build house!

If your not confident get a local spark in, wont cost that much and you'll sleep better at night knowing its been done properly and is safe.

Just use a joint box. Wire it all up the same and just take off a L,N and E to your fitting.

Am i right in think all neutrals together (to lamp), all permanent lives together and switch live to lamp? And do you have to use ChocBox's or can you get away with terminal blocks?

Wire it the exact same as it is
Infact you could just put the flex into the downlight and shove the pendant up
