Why do old shoguns/Ford Mavericks have the rear sidelights at the bottom and the brake lights at the top?
Was it some kind of law back in the day?

Do you mean like this, where the lights are in the bumper and the others higher up?
It's either just the style or something to do with the US law of having sidelights all round the vehicle

dont brake lights have to be at roughly eye level when you are sat in a following vehicle?
all except the high level ones at the top of the screen i mean.

Easy. The original lights don't conform with European standards and regulations due to being mounted too high, so in our markets extra lights are installed in the bumpers and the original lights are disconnected and left "for show".
Looks like shit.
