Would I buy a car with FSH? Yes.

All out of all the cars I have owned though, the ones with FSH have always been the ones you find more bodge jobs on.

Ones looked after by the owners have been better.

Depends on the car and how much internet hype it gets about sticking to main dealers for servicing etc.

Is it an M3??

yes, in my own personal experience indies have given a much better service and generally seem to know more then dealers I have dealt with.

would never use a dealer again unless I had to for warranty purposes.

Depends what it was. If it was a specialist car then I'd want full dealer service to show no expense had been spared, but if it was just your average car a full service history from an independent is just as good.

Sounds fine. Owner was clearly sensible for not dropping his pants to Audi

I wouldn't care on a car with a normal engine, if it was a Ferrari I'd think twice unless it was a specialist but an S3 is nothing fancy in this context.

The fact that you don't have to have a car serviced at a dealer to maintain the warranty.

Nice

Main dealer SH is a bit of a rip off IMO. My mates garage takes more care of my LCR than the dealers ever would and at half the price.

I was told the opposit by a salesman at a ford dealership.

Is this a general rule or does it vary from different marques?

Nah you don't need to go to a dealer for servicing for any marque.

I'm guessing barnshaw meant he would only use a dealer for warranty work as in if something went wrong under warranty.

The salesman is talking shit, European law prohibits manufacturers monopolising car servicing to maintain a warranty.

Good to know, although the 89 quid main dealer service was cheap anyway.

ive bought cars without nay history before, as long as theyre ok you get them cheaper and can service them yourself without worrying about maintaining history.
however, in this case its full history just not dealer history so i'd be fine with it
