OK, so i've bought a private plate from the DVLA website. Says documents should be with me in 14 days.

How does this work. I assume i go along to the DVLA office and they do what they need to do. I assume i tell my insurance once i stick the private plates on.

What happens to the plate on my car? Does this same plate go on the car when i take off my private plate?

You go to the dvla office and they will change your tax disc and mot over to show your new plate. You will have to phone your insurance straight away, they usually charge you £15 for a new amended certificate. Once you take the private plate back off 99% of the time it will be put back on the original plate.

As Eck says, it'll be done there and then at dvla. Then your new logbook will be posted out to you. A new plate usually comes within a few days, doubt you'll be waiting 14 days for it.

What is it?

You'll be fine driving it there and back. I drove mine there, got all stuff swapped. Drove home, then rung insurance and fit plates once I was at home.

Bought it over Christmas and documents were here within a couple of days.

DVLA gave me 48 hours to swop over plates and inform the insurance once assigning plate to my vehicle.

Dvla are much quicker now with things like this, just a shame they still charge do much for doing it.

Means bugger all and you have chucked money and time down the drain for a silly few symbols on the front of a ten a penny Peugeot. Something you will hardly ever see unless walking to or from your car.

People need to snap out of it mindless zombie stupid society, they only do it as they seen a supercar with a plate and can't work out what is the cool bit, is it the £100,000 car or the £300 plate. Must be the plate

Its a sad superficial world we live in.

If you stopped the weed, maybe you could afford one, or see the point of them.

I could afford a different one front and back, but don't see the point really. It just seems like a "look at me" kind of thing to do, to make up for the shitty car choice.

Plate and car will both be a compromise of what the owner really wanted anyway.

In your opinion. I think its cool to get your initials or something of meaning to yourself. As long as it spells the right thing, and not AL02PEX for Alex etc. Some plates look decent

Insecure people imo, that's all its about, feeling the need to be recognized because the rest of their car is so ordinary.

The only thing i can think to compare it to, is the people who wear t-shirts with witty writing on them for other people to read, to let them know how witty you are

SFA really. I chose V888 over V666.

People used to assume it was for 888 Racing when it was on my VXR.
