Hey there guys,

Im brand new around here, and am hoping for some advice from the veterans.

I have a '97 (Holden) Barina GSi 1.6l (corsa). I have been told that the EGR valve on my car has died, and Holden Australia want $1000Aus just for the part. I told them to get nicked.

Anyone here know where I can get a replacement, either new or second hand. And if I can't get one, is there going to be long term negative effects if i just block it off so it doesn't use the valve at all (yes i realise that emissions will change, but am willing to deal with that).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

If you block off the egr ports and leave the valve connected electrically then it should be fine.

There is a chance the ecu warning light will go out but it shouldn't effect performance.

Have you tried cleaning it out?

Kombat,

Is that the specific EGR valve for my car, as listed in the first post?

If so thats nuts, and if i cant clean it i will definately be ordering one off you.

BTW.. I 'think' i have located the valve, but can anyone give me some quick guidance to make sure im looking at the right thing.. ie where is it in the engine bay.. and how do i leave it connected electrically

The main egr valve is bolted to the back of the inlet manifold. Its a black cylinder thing with a silver end where it bolts to the manifold. Its held on by 2 bolts.

There are other elements to the EGR system so it could be one of those if your not sure.

To leave it connected electrically just leave the wiring plug connected to it.
