How do I do this from my laptop?

Also is it any usb stick I can use?

Any will do, format to FAT32, should be this by default anyway.

I used to play movies off a usb and they were in avi format.

if you have xbox live you can stream movies from laptop to xbox , sure can be done with windows stuff. i downloaded and use vuze to stream across prob other programs able to do ot aswell

i use TVersity , as long as xbox and laptop connected via same wifi network can stream

i use vuze, plays most things spot on. converts stuff itself.

how about if i want a load of kids films on a usb stick? will that work? before i go out and buy one?

yeah, usb stick or external drive as long as its formatted right before you put the movies on

USB will work but assuming you have a laptop to put stuff on the USB stick, might aswel just stream.

Download Serviio, point it to your media folder, turn on xbox and go to 'system video player', select Serviio, job done.

Even sorts your media into folders for you, TV Shows, Films etc and adds Cover Art.

its just for ease for my wife to load up the xbox and put a film on for the kids.

Serviio starts automatically, depending on what TV you have you can select the model in Serviio and it will flash a little icon up on the TV telling you you're good to go.

EDIT: This is if you have a DLNA enabled TV, for exaple then you can stream direct to the TV without needing the xbox.

Othewise xbox is fine, I do it this way for watching films on the projector.

Can use a USB As suggested.

You could also just install the windows media plugin and then "Right click the file, and then select Play To -> Xbox 360" and it will auto load on the xbox and stream across your home network, no external apps required

Does not work with mkv files! Only avi films so far
