Unless you particularly want the roadtrip, the Eurostar is only 2 hours to Brussels.
Brussels is very nice, I worked there for 6 weeks last year and am due to go back soon.

Do you or the mrs collect tesco clubcard points? If so look at ferry or eurotunnel deals mate.

It multiplys them by 4 and you'd be surprised what you get. I got a return for free a few weeks ago. Was a Saturday, 6am-ish depart, and sunday 10pm-ish return, supposed to be about £80 with insurance.

Go on there, takes a few mins, then you'll figure it out. Claim unclaimed vouchers too.

Yup, Eurostar is the easiest and they do some brilliant deals if you hunt around. Plus Bruges is only an hour away from Brussels (around 20 euros return; although you can purchase it as part of your Eurostar ticket).

Eurostar can be real cheap too if you book far enough in advance.

I've been several times since making some friends there. We usually stop off at Ghent on the way, it really doesn't take long to drive.

I went on the ferry with the mrs for the xmas market they have there. To be honest i didn't find it as good as rotterdam and no where nearas good as amsterdam, the market was very small and.where you get dropped of there wasn't alot.to do except the chocolate and the chips museum.
May be different in a car but i would recommend amsterdam over brugge anyday ( and no we didn't go in any redlight district shops or weed cafes)

Been to Belgium 3 times but discard one of them. Went for the day a few years ago, ferry over etc. Nice day put and something random. Also did a mini cruise from hull. That was also a bargin day out at £30. Bruge is a nice city and really worth visiting, Brussels was also nice.

I'm in Belgium now with work (Oostende and now currently in Brugge) it's very picturesque and the people are very friendly and welcoming... if you're a Beer drinker you've got to try out the large selection they have but do be warned it is very strong! (8/9%). Also I found out yesterday if you order a large drink they (which we assumed would be a pint) give you a litre
Also... it's freezing at the moment

The ferry trip isn't supposed to be the best across the North Sea.
I was once on a ferry in force 9 gales, not the nicest of experiences...
