Was just wondering the other day what sort of miles these things can take. I've a x20xev at the minute and everyone says there not as hard as the xe. I have had to replace a couple of sensors and now there seems to be a bit of rattling from it somewhere, perhaps the alternator.

About three years ago I had a MK2 Astra GTE 16v (20xe) with 144k on it and it sounded terrible! Thing always sounded tappety, especially until warmed up, but from the history of the car I had the impression it hadn't been well looked after. It still put down a 15.3 quarter mile though.

According to eBay every single XE ever for sale was rebuilt 500miles ago, so it's hard to tell... Oddly no rceipts for the work...

Only sound terrible if wrong oil is used I used magnatec and mine was silent on startup

They all very from the 5000 to 50000 mate most don't seem to make it over that according to adverts

Alot of them are used in conversions or replacements though so mileage is never correct and no real proof of it

I bought a cav redtop on 165,000 and put it in my corsa and it did at least another 40k!!

When i got mine it was still in its original car had about 84k on it old mot's etc to back it up i must have put another 30k on it and its still spot on it does have a little tap from a cold start but goes after about a minute but i think 9/10 do this i do service it every 6month will have done about 5-6k miles in this time just to keep it healthy it is a 25 year old engine

Always about 80k.
Always had recent rebuild (no receipts)
Loads have uprated cams (last seller told them, but they're unsure)
None leak oil.
None tap when cold.
Always faster than other xe's they've seen

I have no record of the mileage on mine because it was put in a corsa, but it taps from very cold for about 5mins then it's quiet as anything. I always let it warm up properly before booting it. Hasn't let me down yet and feels very strong.

Bought a L reg SRI Cavalier with 29,000 on in 1994, drove it hard every chance I got, serviced
it well and sold it in 2002 with 188,000 on! sounded just the same as when I bought it.
