i dye'd my roof last summer using Renovo Reviver (black). The roof itself came from factory as ''grey'', but time and the elements have meant it's more green in colour now.
it went from this:
to this:
the black dye actually comes off quite easily if you attack it with a toothbrush and a decent cleaner, so no problems about going back to how it was before.
just worried i'm going to spend 30 quid on something that won't turn out even remotely red

yes russ, red
i saw this a while back, which i like:
i also saw a news merc with a red roof, although it was a lot darker.
i imagine the red roof dye on grey would give quite a dark colour, so wondered whether it would work or not.

The red is a little "look at me/my roof".
Stick with the black/grey.
Red looks crap.

Red looks great. Very fashionable choice at the moment. Seen plenty of grey Merc's and audi's with red roofs.
Dont see how its look at me, its a different colour roof not a medallion

the only reason it came off in one place is because i attacked some bird crap i left on the fabric for a few days with a tooth brush and some proper acidic cleaner
the rest of the roof is still fine though.

see that looks fantastic.
only thing i'm worried about is whether it'll be a nice red like that, or very dark due to the fact it's a dye on top of grey.

This.
Or just buy a hardtop in the colour you would be happy with, and get it vinyl wrapped when you fancy a change.

Red roofs ftw
I don't think you can dye a dark colour roof red but its definately doable the other way (Red to Black).
There is a little company in Swansea who will do you a mohair roof for £260 all in including fitting (Hand made by himself). He did mine and hundreds of other mx5 owner's cars and is unbeatable for service/cost/quality. You drop your car off with him and he will have it done in a few hours providing you have pre arranged a date with him. Also, if you have a glass rear window he will reuse your current window, or you can have a plastic one.
