CS Career Day!
I seem to be in a bit of a situation with my current job and need some advice!
I currently work for the NHS, monitoring Referral to Treatment times, so basically analysing patients activities wait times etc.
It’s an okay job, not what I want, but I have worked up to it.
The scope is good from where I am, flexible hours, comfy job, happy to encourage future learning etc, but it isn’t going to get me to where I want to be anytime soon.
The jobs I’d like are within management (currently studying with OU for a degree in management), but there has been some recent appointments into the jobs I want, meaning that they aren’t going anywhere soon.
Part of my role I train staff on certain software and national DOH guidelines.
I have recently been asked to apply for a training job to do with a new system coming in to allllll hospitals in the next few years. I was recently unsuccessful for a role and the interviewers suggested the this role both at the time, and contacted me recently.
The job will be promotional and also more responsibility, but not necessarily the management job I want, plus it’s a 60 mile commute each day.
The job is also at a NHS Trust in a bit of a scandal recently, but it wouldn’t really affect my role.

Stick at it, wait my time and see what comes up within this hospital – Playing it safe
Or
B
Go balls out, different hospital, more responsibility and more money.
The job only being 2yr fixed term, isn’t much of a worry...

Well if you are willing to accept the extra responsibility just go for it.

Yeah it's a bit of a jump, but well worth it.

I advise everyone to give up and move to a third world country, living with other hip and cool volunteers, digging water wells and fitting pumps, you can beat about in an old land rover swerving lions and elephants and not worry about a mind numbing career and being stuck in the depressing UK all your life.
You will only end up getting roped in strike action and moaning about wages.
Over here the big news is triple dip recession and the economic climate, over in africa you are more worried about a lion eating your packed lunch. Makes more sense to me.

If its mainly the commute your worrying about, i went from a 4 mile commute to nearly 150 miles if i drive back to north Wales each day, mainly for a job i have wanted since i left school and the pay is well worth it, found a place nearish work but its still 40 mile commute each day.
If its something you want to do then go for it
