After going from the modifying car scene I decided to get a sensible car, which was a astra G 1.7 dti estate.
I like the car very much, estate, comfortable, good on fuel and a few luxuries, but it's missing the looks and the power, so the choices of my next car is either a BMW 330d estate e46 or a4 tdi s-line estate.
Anyone own or owned one of these personally that can give information about them?
Little bit worried that if anything went wrong on either of them it would have a big dent on my wages or are the parts not that bad?

Turbos can hurt your wallet.
Why not get a 320d? Could get a remap and enjoy power and MPG, with the refinement and handling of a BMW without the added cost maybe?

Ye I bet, that's the only thing I'm worried about really.
It's the 300bhp 500lb package that MSD offer which sways me to the 330d, The only 330d i have been in was approx 250bhp and the power delivery was awesome.

I also owned (own) both and if your 530d was more efficient that your 320d then you must have broken it

that is crap
my E39 530D manual - town driving 35 round town, motorway 50 with cruise control set to 70 and then some.
I just filled up my E46 to the brim, 492 miles to 53 litres. Works out just under 42mpg, most of it on motorway ( got to admit it's at standstill some times there) and some town driving.

My OBC is showing 48.6 at the moment. According to the chaps over at E46Zone, they are all out.
So like I said, my E39 530D was better on fuel than my 320D.
