yep, you just need something called a hard drive caddy. you need to take the old hard drive out of the computer and have a look at the connectors and decide which kind you need to buy as there are different fittings. There is the older IDE fitment and the newer SATA fitment as per this picture
then simply plug it all in and you can transfer it all over a USB cable into your laptop, baddaboom
alternatively, do you have access to another PC? providing there are spare ports and power cables in the second machine, you could just plug it in as a second drive then copy it to the second machine, then obviously over to the laptop. Abit of a ballache way but wouldn't need to buy a caddy

not really, the cheap ones can be had for about a tenner on ebay. I've never used a cheap one so don't hold me to that. The one we have at work is a dearer one with multiple fitments etc but you shouldn't need to worry about that.
The other thing to make sure is that you buy a 3.5" one if its coming out of a PC (a proper desktop) as oppose to a 2.5" one that takes hard drives from a laptop.
The other thing to take into account is that you could use it as an external drive as a backup for anything that you might need in the future!
