Aslong as you dont do anything like format their hard drive not much really, its only malicious when you damage anything, messing around doing other things cant be classed as malicious.

Of course it bothers pepople and it would bother me too. But what we were talking about is what kind of formal trouble it can get you into, and the answer is none as long as the access isnt malicious. Basically if you use it to simply scare the person, and warn them that if needs be you could do something malicious then fine, But just dont do anything malicious otherwise thats when it can get you into serious trouble, of course its classed as computer crime.

Ah, but if we're looking at it from a legal trouble point of view, then what you've suggested could be seen as threatening behaviour couldn't it?

I see where your coming from but computer crime is very complicated. And as i understand it, there is no in between such as normal real world crime. The factors are you either damage the machine or you dont. Anything inbetween is not seen as a major consideration.
I think the other thing thats illegal is looking into someones files as they are legally classed as private and confidential.
So basically you can look but not touch.... you can do stupid things like turn the screen upside down, open cd drawer, restart computer etc.

Hmmn, tis an interesting view point.
I only ask because I've been on site for work before in the past and it's surprising to hear peoples viewpoints on it.

Getting an IP is simple enough, but it's not as simple as that.
Oh, and if we get people posting 'Beginner's Guides to Computer Hacking', they'll be removed straight away...
