if you on a budget, get a cosworth 4x4 t3 that requires a rebuild cheap and have it rebuilt to stage 2 spec with .48 rear housing, good for 360bhp and still alot more lively than both you have meantioned.
of a cheap alternative is a gt25 from a mk1 frs, gt series roller bearing thats good for alittle over 300bhp and cost peanuts.
or the tried and tested td05 conversion, which ive had and worked fine

I have to say that i like gt28 that you can get from the gtir nissan pulsar i believe as they seem to have alot of downpipe choices,easy to get a good 3ins one.
Nissans seem to make good power with them!
