Bit of a different one this -
Me and the wife are replacing the Insignia as we both hate it so much and we have £18,000 to spend.
However, we need 2 cars from that money, we've managed 18 months on 1 car and we can't do it anymore as it means that it's a pain in the arse if one of us needs to go somewhere the other doesn't, or one of the cars needs a service, or as the Insignia did, doesn't start!
We have a dog and we have another one 'on order' with the breeder so a hatchback is out of the question, it really needs to be an estate car.
The second car doesn't matter so much but we both like something with a decent turn of speed.
So, we need one practical diesel estate car and a fun car. The split of money doesn't matter but I'd prefer not to have a £17,000 sports car and a £1,000 diesel shed, it's got to be a realistic, reliable combination.
I've had a couple of ideas, as some of you already know, but I haven't found 'the ones' yet.
Suggestions?

Edit: Doens't add up to 20, but i'm sure you'd get them both knocked down.
320d Touring (E90) & An Audi S5.
Boom.

Forgot to mention... One of them needs to fit in a garage (4.6m x 2.25m)
And, for the sensible every day car, I don't want anything with moon miles.

Honda Accord, my dad has one and i always enjoy driving it the few times i get chance
it is practical, realiable and dare i say it a bit sensible, but ticks all the boxes
with the change....i'm not sure at all, CooperS?
despite their size over a Classic mini they are not big inside but as you've MX5 experience doubt you'll have any issues
and available at under £7k for reasonable milage, which gives £10k on an Accord
found these
Accord - 40k miles, £11.995
Mini CooperS, 35k miles, £5000

Pete, her dad had an Accord Tourer, 2.2 diesel and it did loads of miles. I didn't like it though but I guess it's not a bad choice.

Based on needing the reliability of the every day car and not getting on with the Insignia and frustrating when it breaks down, I'd say.
£13,000 every day diesel barge.
£5,000 fun car.
You know better than me what you can get with that money

You see, I was thinking E91 335d and something for £4k like a Clio 172 and some goodies, 200SX, something like that.
Or, something manly and powerful for £12k and £6k on an A4 Avant or E46 330d.
That's the dilemma for me, I just can't work out which way the split is best!
