If I sorn a car, does it have to be insured to stay on my drive, I remember some articles about that a while back?
Also the tax ran out February, so if I sorn it, will I have to back-date it to prevent a fine?

I'm probably wrong but I was under the impression that if it was SORN, it didn't need to be insured but if its not SORN, even if its sat on your drive/off road then it needs to be insured

The rules for insuring vehicles are called ‘continuous insurance enforcement’. They mean that if you’re the registered keeper of a vehicle it must be insured or declared as off the road (SORN).
If not, you could:
get a fixed penalty of £100
have your vehicle wheel-clamped, impounded or destroyed
face a court prosecution, with a possible maximum fine of £1,000
Found that, so assuming it's alright if I sorn it then. Will alter date on V5 as I don't want a £1000 fine

If you SORN it without insurance and your garage catches fire with the car in it then you'd be fucked. It happened to a mate who's classic car was on trickle charge.
I dunno, just think its better to be double safe.

Mine hasn't been driven for 6 months.
Just keep insurance going so can work on it, and build up NCB

What about the insurance clause thats stats the vehicle must have valid MOT and tax? If you had it insured on your drive but didn't have tax, they wouldn't pay out anyway.

I have had a word with some coppers about this and the answer is...... they don't know themselves!!!
The DVLA are only bothered if it's TAX'd. The police are there for if it's got all 3.
But if it's TAX'd and on your land with NO insurance, well they can't drag it off your land then fine you! That's what the coppers.
So them DVLA vans driving round will only clamp your wheel if it has NO TAX and it's on the road. There is NOTHING they can do or will do if it's on your land. They don't know if it's insured or not.
