Good afternoon Guys.

I have come to the conclusion that I am addicted to on-line gambling.

It started with the odd football accumulator, £3 here, £5 quid there which gradually increased into a daily thing onto random teams. Then the money got bigger, like a minimum of £10 a football bet and placing a few of these a day and then onto roulette or blackjack as-well. If I look at the last month for example, ive put a minimum of £10 on roulette every single day, but this can sometimes increase to £50 in a afternoon on my dinner break. I've just lost £140 quid today and I think its getting out of control.

I'm also playing at the bookies if I'm out drinking as well, and lost about £40 yesterday.

I can be £50 quid up and I still don't walk away, I want to keep playing more. If i do walk away up, I can grantee ill put it straight back on again in the next 24 hours.

I'm feeling like a dick about it and for some reason I still want to have another go.

My missus doesnt have a clue how much money is involved and thinks I rarely play. I was playing on my phone last night to which she asked If I was playing for money and I said no

Anyone else been in the same situation? What did you do?

Perhaps a print out of your bank statement to show you how much you've lost might help?

First of all...come clean with your Mrs...as she'll find out one way or another (they always do). Perhaps she'll be able to help you.

My opinion is that, until you realise how much money you're losing (and where it can be better spent), you'll never stop.

Just my opinion.

As Aaron has said the first step in any addiction is admitting you have a problem. Well done for being brave and it even though it is on here.

Tell your missus mate and as it's not out of control she will be a big help.

Yeah, I'd go with what Aaron said, when you're playing online, i think its sometimes easy to forget that its real money you're playing with. I once got into Roulette for a bit, playing with one of those "strategies" when i was young and naive. Won about $800 (american site), then, obviously the "strategy" failed and i lost $200, my first thought was, oh well just wang another $200. Luckily i drew the line there and quit while i was ahead, but there were times where i kept thinking "just put another $200 in, you cant lose again". Easy to see why its addictive.

Tell your missus, she'll probably go nuts first but hopefully she'll support you and help you through it.

Online sites let you set deposit limits, get one of those sorted. Delete them from your phone as that's far too easily accessible.

When I used to gamble for a living making 1-2k a week on fruit machines it's easy to just keep going and then things change and you realise it's not a job it's an addiction you always keep trying to win like you used to and it gets out of hand. I can remember getting a 4k loan for a car and spending that in 2 weeks playing fruit machines I would be spending my weeks wages the day I got paid and be skint for the next week I had It really bad. Luckily I got with my mrs who had kids made me think twice had kids of my own and now I might spend £5 in 3 months on fruit machines. You've done the best thing already by realising you've got a problem before it really gets out of hand , like people have said talk to your mrs about it , change your daily habits so you don't have the time or need to fill what spare time you have with gambling

if your up or down your never winning, only the bookies ever win. there used to be one called DONE for fuck sake.

gambling on machines isnt even gambling, playing a machine is trying to beat a binary code that is programmed to NEVER pay out more than whats put in. you have no chance of ever being up on it.

Ok if you walk past once and you are the lucky person to press the button and get the pay out, then walk away never to return. no ne ever puts money in them once, its either you will put it back in or never try. Im the latter

Computer roulette machines and bandits are a piss take, you may as well have one button and one green light, you put a quid in, press it and if it lights up your in. A no bullshit bandit.

I went for a pint with my work mate the other friday, we went the scrap yard, then the bank to cash the cheque, got our weigh in for the week of £220 and went for 2 pints, He put ALL the £220 in the bandit, and then borrowed £20 off me, he won £70 back in the end but had to give me £20 back off it. Pissed me off cause before I had a pint I had £220 in fresh bank notes, I ended up with £200 in notes and £20 in fucking pound coins

He didnt even bat an eye lid, Id have been in fucking tears

First off, self exclude from all online accounts.

Next, tell your partner and hand over your bank cards.

Let here deal with your money till you feel you can deal with it again yourself.

Also check out htpp://www.gamcare.org.uk A forum for problem gamblers, start a diary and update it everyday, you'll get plenty of support.

Gambling isn't what it used to be.

It's socially acceptable to gamble nowadays and it's far too easy, and pushed in your face, so facing up to and trying to deal with a gambling problem is becoming ever more difficult.

Self exclude yourself from the bookies too.

You'll get the feeling of (ah shit but I cant do my coupon's what if I got a big win etc) don't give a toss about that as soon you'll realise you don't need a 'big win'

I've also gambled for a living, be it fruit machines or other means, But unless your in the loop of contacts don't expect to ever walk up to a popular fruit machine and 'win'.

You'll beat it, there's plenty of support out there. I still gamble but gambling hasnt ever been a problem for me, I have plenty self control.

Good luck.

Self exclusion from every single site you use, is the first step.

Then you cannot play any of them online.

You should also be able to self exclude yourself from every local bookies, although im unsure how that is done. But I have seen it before.

ring up your bank card providers and ask them to decline and block any transactions to your commonly used gambling sites. that way you cant be tempted to write the card details down and sneak the odd one on.

They cannot block gambling sites, end of.

Self exclude from ANY site you have online, then you cannot place a bet for up to 6 months or make an account - there's your online habit ended.

Do something different in the morning on a Saturday when the football is on like shag the missus.

Tell the missus your problem and do what I did (hand your cards over) . Let her give you pocket money as such day by day.

My mate is in the same situation as I was, and to see how much he spends and loses daily actually makes me cringe now. He is skint the day he gets paid and even admits he has an addiction, yet still plays roulette and betting on foreign football teams. If you have to bet, limit yourself to £5-£10 per week.

Don't let yourself down mate as I guarentee it will eventually effect your relationship and lead to health conditions later on in life.

End it now!

Good luck.

I see people in my local putting notes directly into the machine . Was only last week some lad put £40 in it, run out of money , then stood by the machine so no one else could play till his mate lent him a tenner which he also lost . I know it's probably easy to say but I don't know how anyone could get addicted or even play them in the first place . Should ban them IMO , esp in boozers

Thanks for the info guys.

I was playing the PC roulette at first then switched to the 'live casino' where it is a 'proper' table filmed by webcam. How true they are, I dont know.

I think im going to try and Man up Pill first and just go cold turkey with no help.

I said enough was enough yesterday but Im going to Doncaster racecourse this weekend so it isnt really going to help :/ But im not interested in horses so should be ok.

Ill report back in a few days to see how its gone on.

Tell all your bookies online that you use to set you a limit, £40 for a month between them all, so if you use 4 just a £10 limit etc, tenner a week would be fine in a real world. Get smarter with your bets, think about what you put on and stick to what you know, maybe £5 a week football, and £5 a week poker or roulette, if you lost you lost, you can't put any more in.

Then the next step is to just stay clear from actual bookies.

Hope it works out well, heard horror stories of people spiraling out of control and losing thousands.

It sounds to me like you're not actually true to your words and you're not dedicating to quitting.

EXCLUDE yourself from ALL online bookmakers you're with, and don't go to damn Doncaster , where you WILL gamble

I think telling the missus has to be a first start so she can support you rather than you avoiding the fact.

I'd be careful with that unless you know she'll 100% understand. A lot of women are stupid/closed minded on these type of issues if you ask me, which could make it worse.
