My gf is looking at buying a new car, she has 12,000 max to spend

She likes the new polo r-line, which is listed as 14,290 brand new

Is it totally unrealistic trying to ask for a 12,000 cash deal on the car?

Im going to ring the garage shortly, but if its completely pointless im not going to bother

if it was a ford, then no it's not unrealistic.

but being vag, i doubt you'd get 2.3k off list price, although theres no harm in trying.

they are more likely to accept 2.3k below list if you took finance as that's where they earn their money.

Get Ojc to do it. Get you 12k off let alone 2k. Ah wait, it's not Vauxhall.

Do it end of the month when they're trying to hit target, I watched secret shoppers or whatever it's called and they got loads off a car this way

women don't care if it's the same car underneath. all they care about is how it looks.

polo > ibiza.

although saying that...

new leon > new golf.

There is no way any VW dealer is going to knock 2.3k off the price of a brand new Polo

they are not bothered by cash these days, they would rather put you on a finance deal as they get a nice kick back for that

Yup what he said. I struggled to get a £400 option thrown in on the Alfa when I bought that, and that was when the VAT was 15% and they were struggling to shift cars. One dealer actually lost interest in me when I wanted to buy it outright.

Walking in and offering a cash deal doesn't hold as much weight as it used to.

No harm in trying though, if they're not interested tell them to lump it.

This crops up all the time. If the deal is right get a new one, there's lots of times when new deals are better value. Having said that there may be cracking pre-reg ones out there.

Got it for 12,250 in the end after loads of haggling, ringing other dealers and playing them off with each other.

First off he comes out with a figure of 15000 which included supaguard and loads of other shite, I said right get rid of that.

Lots of fucking about though 3 hours in the dealer

I found it odd how they could do a better deal for a brand new unregistered one than a used demo one with 3k on it

The demo probably isn't coming off plan yet? If that is the case it won't be that cheap.

Not tempted to wait for the Up GT then? They look seriously good.
