What are you building? It's often revs rather than power/torque which kills them

Depends how you go about it turbo then you really need pistons changing for big power
Throttle bodies you could get 200bhp but best change rod bolts

if your going turbo then im sure courtney did a manifold and decompression plate

I've had a look on the courtenay site jed and I can't seem to find anything am I right in thinking the z16leh manifold fits?

not too sure mate, i seen a 16xe turbo'd and it had courtney engraved into the manifold... the lad who had it had a mantzel inlet, de-compresion plate and i forget what turbo... said it was on standard rods too

Fair enough mate, I've got an idea of how I'm gonna do mine, but if you know any details of how that lad did it that would be smashing interesting to know that the standard rods can take that much tho tbh

Standard rods won't take much, they fail on standard engines!
Do it properly, fit proper rods.

personally i was shocked to here that he had standard rods and thought the same... dont think that cars still going so probs goes to show your rite alex

I know the standard crank in an X16XE will cope with 220bhp, I would imagine that this is probably your limit! Hope this helps

Mines still ok, its got 150bhp @7200 and 140000 miles
