Right, not clued up on this so need some advice.
Going to see a car today and it has a private plate on it. The seller wants to transfer the private plate to his new car.
What's all involved in this?? Would i need to wait till this was all done before i could get the car with its original plates back on??
He seems to think he could do it there and then seeing as he has the papers for both cars, but that dosn't sound right to me.

He can do it at a registration office if he owns both cars.
Need to wait for a log book though.

So he would need to go to Dundee as i think that's the closest DVLA office.
What would be the best route to go down so i could get the car today??

Only way you could take it today is if you have it with the plate on.
I would guess the office is closed, plus you wouldn't get a log book, he'd have to hand it in.
After you get the log book back, he trusts you to fill in your part of the V317.

Cheers Ian.
So to summarise, i fill in the log book and he sends it off, then when it comes back to me, i fill out the V317 and send it off, then get a letter back to say plate has been transferred to his car, and new (original plate) can go back on the car the plate has came off.

Pretty much except there's no guarantee the car will go back on its original plate.
Also just thought, you need to check with your insurer that you can change the details on the policy without a fee. If so then it might be easier to just have him do it all so when you get the car there are no changes to be made.

Ah right, that could be a bit of a pain then as i kind of need a car quick, and would be looking at at least next week for it to be sorted if he were to do it at a local office doing it all himself.
