Looking at replacing my engine (knew this would happen)
So far i have three options:
1) Replace with the same engine, 2.9 VR6 (one is for sale on corrado forum 192k on it but had a £4k rebuild 30k ago) Conversion would cost me about £400
2) 2.8 24v engine from a 4mo golf, Conversion probably cost about £1k, found an engine with 65k on it and a remapped ECU, so probably something like 210bhp
3) R32 3.2 24v engine, engine could cost up to £1500, and quite a lot needed for conversion, probably over £2k total, maybe more, tbh i don't think i'm ready for this conversion.
tempted to do option 1, as it will be a straight swap, i have all the parts needed already and i want to get it done as quick as possible, i will still have my old engine to either sell or rebuild, and maybe do a 24v or R32 in the future.

Too expensive and bad mpg, plus i imagine lots of problems and a turbo to look after.
Would be nice though.

Whats the reason for the change?
Do you not fancy a rebuild on your own?

Nah, my engine never been rebuilt or had any parts, just hit 200,000miles and i think the head gasket has gone.
Rebuild costs shitloads if the bores are worn, its basically a 2.8 engine bored out to 2.9 already.
Headgasket costs nearly £200 just for the gasket and head bolts, and no point me doing the head gasket and leaving the 200k head on there (is a bit noisy and could do with a rebuild)

If you are gonna do a bigger conversion in a while there is no point spending money on a like for like swap.
Might as well just get on with it now

If your going to spend money on it regardless then youd be aswell doing the one that will make you happy.
Option 3 for me. Less miles but more work amd more fun in the long run.

If ur gonna have 2k to spend on a engine/conversion. Why dont u just get ur own engine rebuilt. Then u know the history. Whats been done. And have a fresh engine out of it

if you really do want to do a conversion then now is the prfect time. if you dont do it now then you probably never will. unless the issue is the money, then i would understand option 1.

Sell corrado to another wierdo who will pay over the odds for a corrado and buy an R32.

Use old engine to make a corrado coffee table and sell as one of a kind.
Buy the R32 using the money you make from selling it.

I would rip the VR6 out and fit an N/A 1.9d from a Mk3 Golf. Big power and good mpg.

I'd probably put a 2.8 in and use the rest on a shrick inlet

Yeah, i think that, and seems a bit of a hassle unfree conversion, seen lots of threads with R32 conversion issues. I think i'd feel a bit lost.
12v replacement is seeming most likely at the moment

I like the shrick but you have to remove it to check spark plugs and i can't be arsed with that

This is true, all the 24v ones lose the noise though, they're too smooth
Maybe find a half decent 2.8 and have the head ported to make up for the bhp deficit over the 2.9, the 2.8s don't suffer from oval bores as much

I could get a 2.8 12v, they are more common and cheap, i think i can just use the head and keep my bottom end, block, then just swap cams, inlet and throttle body to give it corrado power
