I know this question is very vague , but when they design (building not furniture) where do they get their stuff from ? stayed in a hotel last week and they had a modern wooden cladded ceiling like the photo below. Where would you get this from? it had a sheen to it didnt look like varnished wood .

your best bet was to go to a home exhibition like grand designs at excel , or ideal home show there are always companies who produce fantastic wood products similair to what you have oposted and there are quite a few companies who would manufacture(normally well priced as well) that as well.
alternaively try local wood stockists and go from there ? bespoke companies ring around ask around etc.. i can go on and on but yeah thats basically what i would be doing

Our clients all seem to buy home owner wannabe designers magazines and then seem to contact companies mentioned in the mags and get their brochures etc
Could even find reclaimed wood. Some people selling stuff on ebay. With wood its much what work you put into it. Can make shit wood look good and expensive wood look shit.
Wood you would just source from a timber yard/supplier. We use whippletree hardwoods and seven valley. Just need to know the type and section size really. We have used oak floor boards on ceiling before.

I want it to be the same shades as the one above , I really can't be arsed to do anything more than put it up. Does anyone know where I could buy it like above? Must be somewhere as there is no way they will do 100 hotel rooms by hand

Watched a few episodes of Location, location, location recently where they're ripping that stuff off the celings of old houses.
Would only look good if you had a huge room with big windows wherby the exterior complimented the wood. Not sure it would quite look the same in your average 2/3 bed standard UK build.

An not going for the oldie look , I think it looks modern when incorporated with other designs like the pic above

Cheers jules, there still a bit off , wonder if the pic above is a laminated design as it doesn't look the ones on that site .

Find a reclaimed oak floor and get it cleaned up and re stained etc, will looks loads better than some laminated shite.
