Never heard of it until today.
Looks like a private facebook type platform, but strictly for your company and employees.

There's some big name companies using it as well.

Work tried to sort this as a communication tool, its was simply a bad version of twitter.

We use Yammer at work (large nationwide infrastructure provider).
It can be really useful as a sharing/collaboration/discussion tool I've found. I tend to make lots of small groups for different projects etc.
Also like the instant messaging feature. Not that it's a break through feature by any means! It looks so similar to Facebook though - people must think I'm slacking.

My work uses it and put a massive amount of traffic through it, it's a good platform as said just like Facebook but purely for your company and employes only. As we are a word wide company with hundreds of thousands of employees it makes for very easy communication. Does have its bugs but is a very good tool

Only good for medium sized companies upwards. It's a passing fad otherwise.

My previous employer used it, found it worked quite well for technical questions but for everything else was a waste of time.

We use it at work but we are a massive multinational corporation so it's just full of people in America high fiving each other and wasting time
edit - they brought it out at the same time as unlocking the network so we can access all normal forms of social media like FB etc

Seems like it steps on the toes of sharepoint, email and IM a little bit which most collaboration focussed companies have had in place for a while now.
I'm hoping we avoid it, but MS are pushing it hard now on their roadmap so I'm sure we will be asked to look at demoing it soon.
