Went on track day with Opentrack on Saturday at Cadwell park, fantastic track and van performed really well, little oil leek just before dinner but got that sorted and was fine in the afternoon, few more plans now but nothing to major.

And few pics

It's just fun, get noticed when u turn cos people don't understand y your taking a van on track, so expectations of it are low.

But then it turns out to be faster then most things there. Looking to get rid of poly bushes and so solid now, upgrading front anti roll bar and engine mounts also.

Also it super reliable and easy to drive and throw about, people expect the back to be twitchy cos it a van with be weight in back but its very easy to drive. Just twitchy when tires are cold for few laps, lol

And what tyres were you on?

Just the normal vxr turbo, tuning wise it pretty normal.

Tyres are part worn slicks, that I had done 4 track days in now and still doing pretty well! Should be looking to change cos had so so many heat cycles in them now.

Looking to book for snetterton next on 27th June.

Do you manage to get slicks up to temp on the van?

I know the van started out as a bit of a sleeper and that was the point of bit now its being taken quite serious, (you seem to do quite a few trackdays and making some very track focus mods), would you not be better reshelling the car and putting it in a hatch or so to save weight, I appreciate you lose the wow factor but ultimately less weight and a more agile car is going to mean your quicker which takes a priority for me personally.

Having said that it does look well and if you were posting low 1,4Xs then that's quick and would do well in time attack.

I would like to compete in something but I don't have the budget there to do it so just keep doing few track days, try to do 4-5 a year. Still expensive doing that. Lol

Never really thought about re shelling van to hatch. Van has centemental value with it being last project I did with my dad watching and helping a little before he fairly suddenly fell ill and unfortunately didn't make it. The van was taxed and insured the day he went into hospital! So that's prob main reason y I have kept with the van cos holds good memories with my dad :-)

I fancy a propper cage sometime for it, not sure how much extra weight the van holds over a hatch, I did think about turning it into a pick up at one point, lol

As for heat in tires I guess I am getting them up to temp, they are quite sloppy for around 1-2 laps then can push hard a u dare after.

Brother was there with his megane r26 which just has h&r springs, he runs slicks cos they are cheaper. And that goes well, he had tuition and after that the tutor took the megane out with him and Matt was shocked how much quicker he could go . . So making us realise maybe tuition with a professional could gain just as much lap time as doing mods to the car. . .

Wouldn't a van bodied version actually be lighter than a hatchback anyway?

Think they are in standard form but that could be cos van has no rear seat etc. I know mine was 1200kg last time it was weighed, still has heaters, carpets, radio, etc etc.

I love the way this looks apart from the front wings/bonnet covering the lights.

The wheels look different in each picture!

The one pic is on my road wheels, team dynamics ones, Others are with slicks! But yea the flip paint makes them look different each time.

I like the extended wings and bonnet makes the car look more sleek I think!

No matter how good u feel at driving there is always more time to be gained than u realise! Me and brother are looking at paying for tutor at next track day, that way hopefully will be able to use them to help set up the van up also!

There are a couple of key points to being a fast on a track that i will always stick by.

1. Being comfortable and sat in the correct position
2. Real track knowledge (not just knowing where the track goes, but more details, bumps, lines etc etc)
3. Confidence in the vehicle

If you have all of the above then whatever your driving you will be consistantly fast.
