Right i've recently moved to a new company, we have the new outlook, but everyone in the company has to press "send/receive" to check on emails. Is there a way that it'll instantly be sent and received? It just annoys me you have to press that button and it doesn't do this instantly.

Thanks

That's nothing at all to do with any new outlook. Probably not using exchange/hosted exchange. Probably best asking the IT dept.

File->Options->Advanced

Scroll down to Send And Receive

Click 'Send immediately when connected'

Thats the problem, we don't really have one. Its just a friend of the business who comes in and sets email up.

It'll all be connected to some old pop account because it's someone who knew about IT 20 years ago and haven't updated their knowledge.

Good call there.

Is it a hard job to update?

Not if you know what you are doing, it can be a bigish job depending on what needs done though.

Probably just better putting up with it.

The other chap who said about the POP I think has it spot on.

So just to clarify, if you follow the instructions Brett has given you, has it been setup to schedule a send/receive every 30 minutes?

Also just to double check, is it both incoming and outgoing mail thats affected?

Basically , when I send an email it goes into "outbox", it doesn't go straight to send, and it will not send until it refreshes. Same with incoming email, I have to manually press send/receive to refresh to see if there is any mail incoming.

I have done that Brett, and even put it down to one minute, but I want it to be instant. I don't want it pending in an outbox.

Oh, so it is working then, just not instant? Think you're asking too much since it's only pop.

About 10 seconds?

I would like to receive an email (from a colleague for instance) within the second they press send.

Receive would only be based on the interval you've set wouldn' it willay? Wouldn't seem strange if it had a button to send instant tho, I can see where you're coming from Kyle.

Yes, it's annoying the hell out me.

I just can't believe that this day and age you still have to press "send/receive" to refresh the mail server!
Emails should be sent instantly, and received instantly. None of this 1990's "wait in outbox" rubbish.

I have just sent a test email to myself.

Once I have sent it, it says in the bottom right hand corner "sending 1 of 1 email". When it has sent, I press "send/receive", and it says "1 of 2 tasks completed succesfully".. it then hangs for around 10 seconds and then completes the second task!

Grr!
