if the bulb has been removed, is it a MOT fail?
my neighbours dad's airbag light is on because the "clockspring" behind the steering wheel is faulty. and its quite expensive to sort out. he's wondering if it'll pass if he removes the airbag bulb? only problem is service light will still be showing

They can only fail what they can see.
No warning bulb displaying = no fail

i doubt they would fail it with it on, most testers done care, if seen plently of saxos with the air bag light on go through mots with out even an advisory on it,
personaly i would take it out just incase but i dont think its the end of the world

This is what my mrs was told about her ABS light (with abs that's fucked). So they wired the light in to come on and go off when the oil light did

As of the end of march the srs light has to come on and go out, no light is a fail and if the light is always on that's a fail to.

If the car has an airbag it must come on and go out.

Also wiring to another bulb is also technically a fail as it won't be the correct order, however you may get away with it depending how picky or on the ball they are.

No it doesn't.
IF the airbag light is on it will fail.
Take the bulb out and it'll pass. We've had two cars in this week with this issue.

If it's fitted it must work correctly.... So if the light doesn't work then it is a fail. Needs removing correctly too not just removel or the airbag as that would still be a failure

It wont matter if the light doesn't come on, like I said we've had two in at work this week and they passed without bulbs.

As of 20th march the airbag light being ON is a failure
not working at all is a pass

Do folk spend that much time and effort trying to think of ways around the problem rather than just sorting it in the first place?

We had vosa round the other day that's not the case, I've taken a picture of the method of test and reason for failure
If the warning light does not come on and go off it is inoperative and therefore a fail.
If you want to look yourself its in section 5.4 on page 1

isn't there a section that contradicts this though as you can have a track car that has a replacement wheel with no airbag that still passes MOT.
