They are a good cheap little car but not built for safety. Check the service history, if it's been lowered the rear beams seize and airbag light is common

WTF, they're great little cars. Yeah there's not much to them and you feel like you'll probably die in a low speed impact with a dustbin, but they're still good fun. You've probably got your reasons, but go for the VTS if you can.

Would love a VTS but I'm looking to save some monies.
I have a 206 GTi 138 at the mo and the VTS is the same price to tax and insure.

They are fun cars, although if insurance wasn't an issue then get a vts as they are great cars! Main thing I would check is play in the rear beam as it'll never pass an mot if its gone. All the mk2s I've had have been rust free apart from the bonnets, wouldn't touch a mk1 tbh.

Try and find a standard one if you can. As soon as tuning is involved you risk damaging the gearbox, engine mounts and driveshafts. All of which broke on my 106 Gti!

Mind you, if you're going to the Vtr you'll probably be okay.

Go on...

Small hatch, cheap to insure, gets to 60mph in 8secs. Please tell me what else there is for around their price range.

Already said I'm looking to save money.
Don't wanna go less than 1.6L, all 1.6L 16v's and 1.8L are the same to tax so a 1.6L 8v is the best way to go.

Like what? you can pick them up for less than £1k now

Only thing I'll say is you might not like the pedals, I'm only a size 8 and the pedals in my sister's 106 are tiny

At least they aren't metal pedals. They can be a bitch of your feet are wet with slipping off.
