The long and short of it is... I cannot swim. At all.
I tried lessons when i was younger, The instructor thought it was a good idea to throw me in the deep end (literally)
Then he had to jump in and save me.

So i havent been in anything deeper than a hot tub for approximately 18 years.

Has anyone on here learned to swim as an adult?.

Do swimming pools have 'f*ck about' areas? as i dont want to go somewhere where there is lanes untill i can atleast get the basics.

thanks.

hi mate

yeah most council run places have segregated lanes for people who want to do lengths and the rest for people to fuck about in.
Dont be scared to use flots and shit to get yourself started. your body is actually buoyant, if you lie on your back in the water with your head far enough back to put your ears in you should float without to much paddling needed.dont forget to use your legs and not just your arms.

Some gym pools don't actually go deeper and stay the same length!

Just by spending more time in the pool you'll pick it up! Breathing is the biggest point

Your local should do adult swimming lessons? Best way to learn is with an instructor.

My dad learned when he was about 50. It's never too late.

Most councils do have adult swim lessons. I've been lucky and always been a strong swimmer and been privileged enough to teach a few friends to swim also when I was younger.

One key thing is to remember your body can naturally float and water over your face will catch you by surprise sometimes but it's learning how to control your breathing that is key.

Best of luck
