My 1.2 16v will be a 2.0 8v next week and I will be declaring that. Like djgritt says, there's no reason not to. Had a quote on it for when it is declared and its 200 quid cheaper.

Why not do it? People who dont really pee me off. Technically the tax is wrong, insurance is void and your mot is'nt right. Just declare it and save alot of hassle.

Yeah, if you don't declare it you may as well not have insurance or tax.

Technically, the insurance isn't actually void.

They still have a legal obligation to pay out 3rd party, you'll have to pay the insurance company back though.

Declared both of mine. 1.6 - 2.0 and then corsa C 1.8 - 2.0t.

Dont see the point in not, its not worth loosing everything if caught and plus i had nothing to hide. It proper fucked me off when i was at meets and cruises when people would just assume it wasn't legit.

Declared the camper, changed from a 1600cc petrol to a 1900cc diesel. Was a right ball ache though, I know why people of tried and given up in the past (not that I condone that). Letters, receipts and 3 or 4 log books back and forth to the DVLA took over 3 months. And tht was a conversion I paid a specialist for!!!

The sort of people who don't declare them probably have no regard for the law or other people in general. Sort of people they pull over for no tax on road wars who then have a big trail of other offences.

Save a bit on insurance but be a general lowlife.

I declared my 1.0 to 2.0, from memory, it didn't increase by a great deal.

Only reason not to declare it, is the increase your choice of insurance companies, as the majority of companies don't like to cover conversions.

My xe was cheaper on insurance than a 1.4 would have been.

But there is a difference to declaring the to DVLA and declaring to your insurance. I knew a lad who after weeks and months of letters to and from the DVLA they wouldn't let him change his 1.6 fiesta zetec s to a 1.7 puma engine on the log book. In the end he said fuck it, insured it properly and drove it for years without any police problem. No change in the tax rate and he had genuinely tried to change it but the guy he was dealing with at the DVLA wanted something on paper from ford saying he engine was legal etc.

I should add local ford dealers didn't want to know as they obviously didn't want to be responsible if something went wrong

Mine was £40 more than insuring it as a 1.4,so no reason not to do it! And it really won't be worth it if and when you get caught,(if its you thinking if doing it) 6-8 points and a £200 fine!and quite probably get your car impounded which is another £150 plus £20 odd a day. I'd rather pay the £40 difference!

You're not exactly going to get people admitting that they don't in this thread so a bit of a silly debate, and a silly question in the first place.

Loads if people won't have it declared and even more wouldn't of done back in the day. Guarantee that half the valver novas were down as 1.2s!

This really. Someone who i used to work with at my old job got caught. They crushed his car and he got a massive fine and a load of points which meant he got banned. Not really worth the hassle is it.

I never declared mine to DVLA but did have it insured with Flux, with all mods declared (its hard not to with them as they are pretty clued up on XE/LET conversions).

I never changed it on V5 for the simple reason it would have been harder to sell when the time came.

There's also quite a few on here not declared and probably not insured as an XE etc, with ££££s in them. Easy enough to tell which as its probably all the folk that havn't commented lol.
