Just heard on the news she's had a double mastectomy because she's at risk of breast cancer
Brave move to make, respect to her.

No, no respect to her. Its just an excuse to have a boob job!!!!
She hasn't even got breast cancer. She's at "risk". So is every person (male and female)

An excuse for a boob job?! Wouldn't it be easier to just have said tit job, rather than hacking both breasts off first?! It's an Incredibly brave thing to do. Some people are actually more at risk, say for example if there's a vast family history of it, like if her mum, granny, aunties and sister have all had it, she's greatly more at risk. A

Do you have any idea how utterly stupid and ignorant that makes you sound. I can't tell if you're just trolling or not lol.
Her mother died of breast cancer and she carries a gene that makes her more susceptible to getting breast cancer and ovarian cancer. The operation has apparently reduced her risk of getting breast cancer from 87% to 5%.

Never heard of getting a mastectomy due to risk of breast cancer. Is that ordinary?
Surely if you're at risk you'd just get regular check ups?

Yep regular screening is sensible.
Everyone statistically has a 33% risk of getting cancer, lets all kill ourselves just in case

It's becoming more common, I've heard a few cases of this now.

Pretty sure one of the members of ex pop band Liberty X had one a while ago for the same reasons.
Must be a hard decision to make.
I am with you though you would think regular check ups would be ok

Reading up on the subject it's actually not uncommon at all.
There's a number of reasons why doctors would recommend this procedure.
I doubt, however, that "attention" and "excuse for a boob job" are high on the list of reasons...

Probably not a reason but seems like something turn into a publicity stunt, why is she making so much media noise about it? its not unheard of for her to pull the odd media stunt here and there

She's making media noise about it as she's a high profile celebrity who is doing something which thousands of other women have to consider every year.
Remember Gail Porter not having a wig? Same reason, it's not for attention, it's to make other women think 'well, if she can do it....'
