... if you need a cheap but loads of features stereo:
https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/sunday-specialbuys-19th-may/sunday-specialbuys-19th-may-product-detail/ps/p/car-cdmp3-bluetooth-radio/
I've had their last one (when they were £40!) for a few years in and out of various cars and it works very well for the price. Might be worth it for the daily driver/works van/etc...

Yeah I had their last one too, if the new one is anything like it, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat, really good for the price.

Ive got a really old version (Medion?), when it was £20, this doesnt appear to have anymore features but has more than doubled in price, which is disapointing because I dropped the HU the other day so the screen doesnt work anymore

Silly question but how hard are these to fit?
I have an Occy VRS and struggle to see how easy job it would be?

You can get a Sony/Kenwood/JVC/Pioneer head unit for the same price elsewhere. Although they don't have bluetooth playback

Does that mean you control your phone from the headunit or still have to change the track from the phone itself?

What's the chances that the bluetooth playback doesn't work with an iPhone?

The last model worked fine with mine, don't see why this one would be any different

Cool. I'm wanting a cheap head unit for a tractor and might be handy not to have an aux cable trailing in the cab if the bluetooth does work with an iPhone

What have you got int he Octy? Single or double din?
if you have a double din and want the above, then you'll need to get a Single Din 'carriage' (can't remember the correct name for them) but getting your original out is a piece of cake, remove the surround, unbolt 4 bolts then it'll slide forward.

Yeah looks untidy in cars and not good in a tractor cab, the head units built in to the roof so to have a aux cable dangling down to your phone might not be so clever getting knotted up in all the controls

They have to, the checkouts keep track of how many items they scan in a particular time, then they log off and go on the shop floor if there aren't any customers on their lane. Quite an efficient system when you compare it to the big supermarkets.

do you think it's acceptable to throw items down so fast that my loaf of bread and pack of eggs fell on the floor?
tesco/morrisons isn't much better, but at least they give you time to pack your stuff before hurrying you out the door.
i used to work in somerfields and our items per minute through the till was also logged. 15-17 per minute was the average and considered perfectly fine. i'd imagine aldi's is at least 30 per minute.

I work at a co op and we don't have that system, it's just do it in your own time, which is fun if you've got a pain in the arse customer.

When I did checkout at Waitrose we were told to scan at the same speed as the person packing. Shop there and pack at your leisure Someone will pack for you and take it to your car if you ask too

Which is why Waitrose and Aldi are vastly different in terms of price. Aldi, being of German origin, time every little thing, from time taken to put out produce to till speeds; they have a minimum speed of 1000 items per hour, so at least one item every 3.6seconds. The costs of the products in the shop will be set to include the staffing costs and in order to maintain lower prices, the times have to be consistent. If a till isn't doing a 1000 items +, it gets closed off and that staff member allocated elsewhere in the shop. They don't shelf stack through the night either, replenishment happens just before opening, during opening hours and immediately after-they don't run round the clock shelf stacking as most big supermarkets do. Add to this that the stores run on significantly less staff than a morrisons or tesco store and you can see why they dot gang about packing your bags or letting you daudle. I you want lower prices for the same products, then something has to give somewhere.
Top that with the fact that they've been Which's supermarket of the year for the past couple of years and are also one of the few seeing growth in sales and number of stores (Netto gone and Lidl is on the brink of collapse) and it really isn't a bad prospect

And further to that, a lot of the Aldi brand groceries are exactly the same as M&S and Waitrose but significantly cheaper and the price difference highlights the way the stores operate further. Quite often, pallets are delivered from suppliers with the wrong sleeves or packaging so when they trade on the phrase 'like brands, but cheaper', they actually should say 'the exact same as the brand in different packaging but cheaper'.
Finally, the pay scales and performance related bonuses are fantastic; clearly the staff are expected to work harder than they would at Tesco/Morrisons, etc. but the rewards are there. But to bring it full circle to the point about till speeds, the store Productivity bonus and individual's performance bonus is linked to things like till speeds; the more consistent and efficient each staff member works individually and as part of the team, the more they take home in their pay.
