just wondering what are peoples opinions.

my corsa gsi rear brakes are nackard. need new shoes, calipers, drums and springs. for this price i can get a rear disc beam.

im running it with a v6 in and 288mm brakes up front.

would i be better sticking with the drums or change to discs

I'd stick with drums, doesn't need any more than that unless you're running power like bigrons monster of a car

As you have a v6 in there, i'd say get some rear discs on.

You change to discs and you will be locking up the rear, mate has v and he put discs on hard braking rear locks up had to fit a valve to adjust what pressure goes to rear.

Nic it is just a road going car. Not running any major power through it either. Probably never be more than 250bhp. Think I may just stick with drums then. From what I've read it's quiet a big job to do compared to just sticking a pair of drums on.

I run disks on the back of mine its one off the best mods ever to do one for the look and second becausethe brake pedal is loads better its higher up if you run v6 calipers dont know why but just do and to stop the back brakes locking up all you need to do is take off the load sensing valve spring off and there fine i have ran rear disk for 4 years no probs at all

if it would cost the same as what you have to replace id do it tbh. just for next time, pads are less of a fuck about to change than shoes imo

Advantage of discs on the rearisnt about braking force.

You wont get any more braking force as such by fitting discs, and if you did that would make your system unbalanced anyway.

the advantages of discs are better heat dissipation and easier to work on

some people fit them for looks aswell of course

i was thinking about people saying they lock up all the time but as said, surely there is still the same amount of braking force being applied.

possy what hand brake cable do you have to use on them

Had drums didn't lock up from the rear, fitted discs, it locks up from the rear. Real world stuff not Internet experts.

You have it setup wrong then if its locking up the rear before the front.

You should be able to lock all 4 wheels at almost the same time (fronts slightly first) if you dont have ABS, regardless if you have drums or discs.

If your drums werent locking up in this scenario before they were probably fucked

They were brand new shoes and drums before I did that track day. Just saying, facts not myths from people with keyboards.

without siding with steve, the brake bias must have been set up wrong nic. similar to when you lower saxos too much and they start locking the rears

In the race series I help my mate it (I'm his mechanic in a e30 production series) some cars have rear drums and some hsve disks. Most cars are converted to rear disks, there is zero lap time difference between them, rear disks are preferred simply because they are easier to maintain / check

Because even with a bias valve fitted and it all the way to the front it will lock the back wheels up and spin the car , Steve will tell me I've done something wrong so don't listen to me

Not really, if youve adjusted it right in not much more you can do apart from get a valve with greater adjustment or go back to drums.

I dont suppose it really matters on a drag car though

Hard decision to make because everyone has a different opinion and different experiences. The car isn't a daily driver. It's does less than 1k miles a year.

Not really doin it for looks as you won't really be able to seem them behind D90's. was only thinkin of doin as its a cheaper option than replacing all that's wrong with it ad as said they are alot easier to maintain

it sounds like you should stick to drums, easier to maintain? ell set of shoes last ages and are cheap, so are brake cylinders,
if you take the plunge to discs, you have to be prepared to fuck about with handbrake cable, set of discs and pads is more expensive, plus be prepared to maybe fit a bias valve etc etc.
