Been doing some research into a stage 1 map on a Scirocco GT 170 TDI, read some were that you can have trouble with the clutch slipping due to increased torque & BHP (as you would expect with any car that has been remaped), but only on manuals? How true is this if so does that mean your better with DSG? If so why does it have problems on manuals but not DSG?

I know some of you have DSG and no a lot around these before any one pipes up its not a Scirocco forum

Clutch won't just go next day, will be prone to more wear but mine lasted until 125k on GT TDi Golf.

My Fabia vRS was remapped prior to me owning it. I had a new clutch when I bought it 24,000 miles ago.

I drive it normal, with the odd very hard kicking it deserves.
Clutch is in no worse state than when it was new, well it doesn't feel worse anyway.

That is with 167bhp and 295lb ft

Ah I no that, guess my point is, is it more likely with a manual then a DSG box and if so why?

What power was your golf? 170 tend to get between 200BHP / 215BHP just trying to decide between manual or DSG this will help sway my vote, that's if what I've been reading is true

From what I have read before, Auto's seem to handle the torque better as they use torque convertors, not a clutch as such.

Ah ok so there is some truth in it then, will be doing pretty much the same as you casual driving to work but will be giving it stick a fair bit.

Had your clutch gone then when you got yours?

It being a double clutch may be why.. i dont know

No, apparently the DMF had, which it hadn't....

As long as you do not floor them below 1,800rpm, they should last like any clutch.

My (manual) Ibiza slipped like a good un' after remap, but I learned to drive around it. I could still boot it, but once aware of the nature of the slippage you subconsciously avoided the vulnerable part of the torque curve.

No idea how it would work on a DSG box

dsg box limits the torque through the box itself so wont effect it as much as a manual, you can get the limits raised by mapping the box itself (basically just increase oil pressure from what I have read).

it is double clutch system one clutch for even and one clutch of odds, so wouldn't of thought that would make a difference.

So am I right in thinking a DSG box would be better to go for if I'm wanting to up the power?

not really imo, manual would be better, like I say the auto box limits the torque it puts through it, so you can up the power and torque but the box brings the torque level back down unless you get the box itself mapped as well.

saying that I bloody love my dsg.

I have read on a few companies sites that they can change the box so it limits the torque in say 1st & 2nd and under so many RPM then remove the limit further up. Well some thing along them lines

Yeah I've been driving a few cars that are auto's not DSG mind and love them, even a basic boring mondeo, just nice not being on and off the clutch in town situations ect.

I haven't driven many autos other than a merc and the dsg is in a different league imo.

Parkers only quote a 4mpg difference real world difference will probably be pretty much the same at a guess.

Just need to find a decent example now, the stressful part of hunting one down can begin

think you posted a picture up before, have you got one?

I'm just not a fan of the dash in the Leon much prefer the scirocco, what's the spec and price of your FR?

My old Ibiza Fr was remapped when I got it at 19k, my brother is just about to get rid of it on 92k and it's still on the standard clutch without any slippage.

Just don't get a remap done by someone because its cheap, go for a decent generic one like custom code, revo etc and you should be fine

Map it and get a warranty on the car if your that bothered. Warranty to include clutch could be had for about 300 a year on a car like that.

Yeah warranty is an option still if I new one was better to go for I'd opt for that one to atleast help towards it not going. Ultimately if I go the route I want to ill change the clutch at some point any way.

Well warranty wise include the clutch. And from some research into new motors they are quite highly regarded by Porsche owners as they tend to cover a few common issues with a Porsche.
